Opportunity for Individuals and Companies in Serbia
The tech sector is leading the way, as many businesses are adopting digital nomadism and remote work. Those who work remotely, especially startups and small businesses, can adapt to the flexible work arrangements that come with being a digital nomad. As a law firm that represents clients in these sectors, we can state that conducting business remotely is not only becoming more common, but that companies are genuinely looking for the ideal locations to set-up their physical bases.
It is well known that when digital nomadism increased during the pandemic, certain countries saw a chance to attract professionals to their own territories and started figuring out how to make their home markets more appealing to visitors who wanted to stay for a long period of time. For the last three years, certain countries provided unique conditions and even incentives for digital nomads, while others hardly see the necessity of the developing field of digital commerce at all. Portugal is among the countries that have formally recognized the value of digital nomadism by instituting The Digital Nomad Visa, which independent contractors can apply for and use to invoice clients outside of Portugal.
In this regard, Motika & Partners can provide Serbian nationals and businesses with a single point of contact for advice throughout the whole Digital Nomad Visa application process. Specifically, in light of our strategic partnership with an advisory firm in Lisbon, Motika & Partners is responsible for reviewing the applications of individuals and corporate clients who are contemplating relocation to one of the carefully chosen locations in Portugal. Following that we provide legal guidance to an individual or a business throughout the process.
Benefits that come with Portuguese visas and other services for companies
A Digital Nomad Visa can be requested by those who are willing to live in Portugal for less or longer than 1 year in order to work remotely for a non-Portuguese individual or company with a monthly income over EUR 3,280. This type of visa allows the applicant to reside in Portugal for 2 years, renewable for an additional 3 years. Upon obtaining a Digital Nomad Visa the person cannot be out of Portugal for more than 8 non-consecutive months nor 6 consecutive months during the first 2 years. After 5 years of residence in Portugal, the applicant can apply for permanent residence as well as for citizenship.
In addition to this, Motika & Partners screens applicants and determines whether they qualify for other Portugal visa categories, including the D2 (entrepreneurs, investors, or independent professionals) and D7 (non-lucrative Portuguese Visa available for retired persons or those with passive income of EUR 820/month) visas, as well as the Golden Visa. It’s interesting to note that funds and venture capital businesses have special benefits from the Golden Visa, which allows them to live and operate in Portugal, and move around the EU without restriction. While independent contractors, investors, and entrepreneurs might benefit from the D2 Visa’s incentive conditions.
